Making it your own

I'm headed to Brimfield tomorrow.   Over the years, I've found some beloved pieces... from mid-century wine glasses to my bird lamp! It's something I look forward to all year long, so tomorrow is kinda a big deal for me. But it also got me thinking about furnishing and decorating.

So whether you are like me and are always re-decorating OR you've just found that perfect house; how and where do you go to furnish it.  Interestingly I'm not the only one thinking about it.  This article, recently published by Curbed Boston, highlights their take on where to go, "Boston furniture stores: 15 of the best for all price points".   And while they have some good ones, and some I've never been to, surprisingly only one is also on my go-to list - Reside.  It goes to show, shopping is personal, and we have great local some options.

I love(d) Reside, but I mostly loved going in every week or two and seeing what was new. For places like Reside who specialize in vintage and have an always revolving inventory, it's best to talk to them and let them know what you're looking for, or just hope to get lucky.

So what else is on my list? Like my decorating, my list remains a moving target, but...

Some of my personal favorites in Cambridge, beyond Reside, include:
Fabola (also vintage and majorly hit or miss)
Abodeon (less furniture, but fun housewares and gifts, some vintage, some just cool)
Design Within Reach (need I elaborate)
America Dural (a mix of antique styles, custom furniture, great staff... and in full disclosure, I purchased my custom couch from them)

In Boston there are so many options, but I feel compelled to call out Machine Age as a must see and Danish Country Antiques on Charles street who have a nice mix of modern and traditional options.

And if you're out in Waltham, make sure to check out Ramble Market eclectic and self- proclaimed to be a "totally unique 10,000 SF group of shops!", which makes it all the more fun.

This list will grow (and sometimes even shrink), but remember it's about enjoying the process, even those of us who don't love to shop can embrace the search.  More after Brimfield....
