Time sync sites
/My kryptonite is when I see compelling design ideas or furniture online... I get sucked in, I follow links, I Pin things, I look at things that aren't even (yet) on my radar as ideas for my place, a place I may someday own or even my friends' places. It's like falling into a black hole. But one that makes me happy. In order to try to maintain my sanity and focus on real, productive tasks for the day, I've systematically been unsubscribing from the million emails and blogs that cloud my focus, hoping to make these forays into dreamy design land something that I get to do proactively rather than reactively.
It's working... sort of. There are a handful for which I can't seem to click the unsubscribe, and continue to risk temptation. Daily. When I stepped back to think about it, I realized it's used stuff, not really sites like School House Electric, which I love, but whose inventory doesn't often change, but the auction and antique sites... where every day there is something new, or the potential for something new. It's like a never ending Brimfield... I think that's why I can't break it. Every day there is the hope that the new perfect thing at the most rock bottom price ever will reveal itself... It's really about the hunt. So while I have a host of go-to places for great new stuff (another blog coming soon), it's all about the not quite new, pre-owned, vintage, you pick your term...
Beyond the obvious sites such as Ebay, Etsy and Craigslist, the few I'll highlight are some of my favorites as well as my most total time syncs... (Speaking if Ebay for anyone who is a DWR whore like myself, their outlet is on Ebay, and there are some good deals to be had.)
1stdibs - High to high-ish end antiques. Generally pricey, although I did have a dealer once tell me to negotiate, so there's that... https://www.1stdibs.com/
Everything but the House - online estate sales. Enough said. (well not really, my 2 cents is that if the sale isn't local to you, shipping with them has been long and expense, so keep that in mind)... www.ebth.com
Chairish - Your local antique store (and every other one you can think of) online, unlike 1stdibs, the stuff is generally approachable.... www.chairish.com
Viyet - Higher-end furniture consignment which means you can make any offer, it doesn't mean you'll get it... www.viyet.com
... do you know of others??? What am I missing. Please do comment!
